We spent 10 glorious days in Lake Tahoe at the end of July/beginning of August. It's always a great time. Both girls are much more comfortable in the water now and love the beach. While we were there, the mister and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.
The day after we got home, I headed back to my classroom for the first time all summer. As many of you know, my school site has been under construction for the past year. Although I didn't have to unpack over a hundred boxes this year, I was greeted with this mess.
The sawdust was EVERYWHERE! It took me days to clean it up. I am really looking forward to this being over.
This is a big year for us. Our youngest daughter started Kindergarten and now I have both girls at school with me! Everyone had a fantastic first day of school. The mister came to see us off on our first day.
We've spent the first week of school working on procedures, agreements, and exploration. Before asking them to do any "work," I always let the students explore our materials.
Do you let your students play in Kindergarten? We do. It's so important for language and social development. My favorite quote of the week, "Mrs. S, do you want hot sauce on your hamburger?
Yes, friend. Every time.

How was your week?
Hi Andrea,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a great week! I love that you let your kinders play. They need that!! When I did a long term sub position in kinder, I hated that there was no play time and it was all instruction. They are too little for that!!!
Have a great weekend!

Sound like a great week! I love the outfit you wore on the first day of school.
ReplyDeleteYou've sure been busy my friend!! I LOVE that you got to spend such a wonderful vacation at Lake Tahoe, how awesome is that!! I can't even imagine what you're going through with all that construction, I hope it's over for you soon!! I really love how you have your kinders exploring the tools, I always do the same thing!! Soon enough they start to tell me 'These are tools, not toys!!" Our district is all about letting them play!! For the first two-three weeks of school, we don't have to teach any type of content. We just let them play and learn rules and routines.
ReplyDeleteI hope you've had an amazing beginning of the year, and I can't wait to keep reading about how things are going for you this year! Thanks so much for sharing your 5 with us!!
